There is a large campsite at Ásbyrgi with facilities for tents, trailer tents and caravans. It is advised to book a campsite before arrival due to the popularity of the campsite, and then there is also a greater chance of being able to reserve a pitch with electrical connections. In the spring of 2025 the campsite will not open until June 1 due to renovation of the restrooms.

The campsite in Ásbyrgi is open from June 1 until the end of October. Opening and close dates are subject to snowfall in winter and snow melt in spring. 

The campsite in Ásbyrgi is split into 23 zones. A total of 48 electric hook-ups (1500 W) are available. A three-pin plug is needed for hook-up and an extentions cord.

The campsite is divided into 23 zones, each of which is marked by a capital letter (A, B, C, etc.). Each zone contains limited number of sites. Pitches are neither marked out nor labelled.

Zones A, B, C, D, E, F, and H are for electric hook-up only. Vehicles cannot enter zones S, T, U, V and X.

Due to fire prevention regulations, visitors are required to keep distance between camping units. Space between single tents must be at least 3 m (10 ft), but more density is allowed for groups. Motorhomes, camper vans, trailers, etc. must keep at least 4 m (13 ft) between units.

Please note that zones may be sold out, even if currently empty. It is therefore extremely important to register online prior to camping.

Guests on the campground in Ásbyrgi have access to a service building with toilets, showers, washing machine, and a drying closet. Access to washing machine and showers is included in the camping fee.

Always show respect and be considerate to other visitors. Enjoy the sounds of nature and avoid spoiling it with loud music or noise. Keep alcohol consumption at minimum.

Peace and quiet shall prevail on the campground from 23:30 to 07:00.

Collecting firewood within the national park is not permissible. Care must be taken when using charcoal barbeques, gas cookers and other cooking equipment, in order to prevent fire hazard and vegetation damage. Never pour dirty or boiling water on the ground.

Pets are welcome if they are kept securely under control. Care must be taken not to allow them to disrupt either the biota or the peace of other visitors. Dogs must be kept on a lead.

Keep your campsite and its surroundings neat and tidy. Put waste in refuse bins. Facilities for sorting waste are next to the visitor centre. Drinking bottles and cans with deposit can be put in separate collecting coops, for the benefit of the local search and rescue team.
